News: Cambrian Caving Council Newsletter for July 2017 Now Available

The July edition of Wales Underground, the Newsletter of the Cambrian Caving Council is now available.

The newsletter contains details of the Welsh Government’s consultation on improving recreational access to the countryside and urges cavers to make their views on this known and to attend an open meeting on Sunday 23rd July 2017.

In other news, the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has placed a metal grill over the entrance to Pwll Dwfn on the grounds of public safety, despite the fact that there have been no accidents at the site since it was opened in 1947.

Other cave digs in the area have also been grilled by the National Parks Authority. Stuart France, the CCC Access/Conservation Officer reminds cavers that all digs need landowners’ permission and Sites of Special Scientific interest will also need permission from Natural Resources Wales.

The newsletter also reports significant changes to the Alyn Gorge Sinkhole. The entrance has been gated to prevent accidents, however caver access has been allowed outside the bat hibernation period from October – April and a detailed report is given of the changes that have occurred, possibly as a result of winter storms.

For full details of the above, a copy of the newsletter is available to download here
