The National Trust is offering guided tours of the surface remains of Force Crag Mine, worked for zinc and barite, high in the Lake District. There will be one tour per month from April to September (excluding July), on the dates listed below.

Tours will take about an hour and will cost £6. Although the tour does not include the underground parts of the mine, it does include the processing plant which has survived since the mine closed in 1990. Please bear in mind that the ground is rough and uneven and the mine itself can only be approached on foot or by bicycle, over a 2 mile long track, or you can use National Trust transport to get to the site.

Full details of times, location, and arrangements for transport are provided on the National Trust web page for the events. Booking in advance is advised.

Tours take place on the following dates in 2016:

  • 6th April
  • 8th May
  • 12th June
  • 7th August
  • 1st September
