Do BCA have your email address?

BCA Online

Since last year the BCA newsletter has only been distributed by email and BCA online are again appealing to cavers via Club Secretaries to help with building their database of members email addresses and getting permission to email members.

BCA is a separate organisation to your club so even if your club has passed on your email address they still need your permission before they use them.

The appeal seems to be falling on deaf ears in some areas – currently less than two thirds of cavers have supplied email addresses, less than 10% have opted in to receive the email newsletter and only 2% have registered online. We’re very conscious that the people running BCA online are volunteers – so we thought we’d try and help with a nudge and a quick guide! In turn perhaps you can help by sharing this message and perhaps passing it on to your members via Facebook and email groups.

Even if BCA have your email address they won’t send you communications unless you both register online and opt in to receive emails.

If you haven’t registered it’s is easy enough to do:

  1. Go to https://members.british-caving.org.uk/users/login
  2. Click on “Request Login Details
  3. Enter your email address and click “Submit
  4. If your email address is not found it means BCA do not have it. Email [email protected] – you need to update your details with your club secretary – as well as your email address please include your full name, BCA membership number (from your membership card) and full address
  5. If your email address is found the BCA will send you an email with a link to set your password and login

Once you’ve registered you then need to login and do two things:

  1. Click on “Your Profile” and check your contact and insurance details
  2. Click on “Email Preferences” to opt in to receive an email copy of the BCA Newsletter

Editors note: That BCA only have emails for less than two thirds of members is a daft situation – even in my club only one of around forty members doesn’t have an email address – and we’ve an average age well over sixty! This is obviously a personal comment not one endorsed by BCA or even my fellow editors.
