Newsflash: Water Release in the Mellte River Affecting Porth yr Ogof on 29th and 30th July 2017

Information has just been received from Nathan Walding at Welsh Water/Dwr Cymru that due to rainfall experienced yesterday and that forecast over the coming weekend, in particular tonight, they need increase releases out of Ystradfellte reservoir today for to Dam Safety reasons associated with their spillway work.

They intend to keep this to a small release and the flow would not be dissimilar to that which would naturally flow over the weir if the reservoir was full, if anything less, as they expect the current level to rise slightly even with this release they are planning.

They apologise for late notice but this is due to the need to make a reactive release.

For safety reasons, cavers are advised to avoid the river and the cave today and tomorrow.
